2017 Saint & Scholar Pinot Noir 12 pack

Pinot Noir is an elegant grape and makes a beautiful elegant wine, like a thoroughbred race horse, something to behold. The growing and winemaking however is more akin to breaking it in then gelding it, not for beginners.

Pinot Noir does what it wants. At Gumeracha we have many different soils types, some fertile and some tough. The whites like the deeper, cooler, wetter soils but to manage Pinot we temper its behaviour to grow by asking it to grow on high shallow ridges and on seams of ancient slates. By doing this it helps balance what we need to do in the vineyard.

The drier tougher soils mean the yields are lower and warmer breezes on the ridge top and exposure to sunlight help us manage disease which pinot is prone to because of thinner skins and very tight bunches. It’s a way of using natures assets to help us intervene less.

To help the fragrant pinot noir we use a lot of different wine making techniques to improve smell and taste. A bit like adding jewels to a gold ring.
