The 2021 vintage was almost perfect, with a long, cool growing season, plenty of rain falling at the right time and slow ripening conditions resulting in flavoursome berry development.
This special single vineyard Shiraz is the first we have made using cuttings from our famous ‘Old Bastard’ vineyard planted in 1893. Carefully hand picked in the morning, the grapes were gently destemmed with the crusher rollers out to make sure there was a high percentage of whole berries in the ferment. During fermentation the wine was pumped over as needed, lightly pressed with both free run and pressing together. The wine was matured in French oak barriques and puncheons of which 40% was new.

The palate is full of wild strawberries, pomegranate, cassis and sweet spice flavours, complemented by silky tannins and a long, lingering finish of mocha and chocolate.
